The African Farmer’s Creative Approach to Fencing

How does it work?

In Africa, a farmer will suspend a beehive from a ‘invisible’ fence about every 10m along the frontline of his farm.

When an elephant approaches to forage for food, the pressure it places on the fence will alert the bees who will in turn cause a bit of grief to the intruder (around the eye, ear or trunk), prompting it to retreat.

This honeybee fence will also provide pollinators for the crops, and honey for the farmer.

This is a creative and cheap fencing solution that reaps an additional sweet reward.
